FENCE REQUIREMENTS <br /> PERM IT- No person shall construct, or cause to be constructed, any fence in the City of Saint Paul without first <br /> obtaining a permit from the buffing official. If a Contractor is hired by a homeowner the Contractor is responsible for <br /> obtaining the proper permit and license. <br /> FEE- $15.00 for the first 200 lineal feet or fraction thereoferected and $5.00 for each additional 100 lineal feet or <br /> faction thereof <br /> SITE PLAN- A site plan mast be submitted showing the location, length,height and type of fence (wood, chain link, <br /> etc.)being installed. <br /> HEIGHT OF FENCES -No fence shall be erected exceeding six feet six inches(6'6') in height above the sidewalk <br /> of finished grade of any residential parcel. Fences and all supporting structures shall be completely within the <br /> boundaries of such parcel All fences erected between the front property line and the front setback line shall be no <br /> more than three feet six inches(3'6') in height(non-obscuring fencing such as chain link are exempt). <br /> Fences and all supporting structures including footings must be on the applicants property. If a reliable reference for <br /> establishing the lot fines is not present, the Building Inspector may order that a land survey be made. Ifthere are any <br /> questions,please call 266-9002 between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m and discuss any problems with the Building Inspector <br /> before starting construction. <br /> CORNER CLEARANCE- No obscuring fence above a height oftwo feet(2')from the established street grades <br /> shall be permitted in a front yard on the corner side. <br /> SWIMMING POOL.FENCES: - An yards containing swimming pools shall be enclosed by an <br /> obscuring fence not less than four feet(4')in height. The gates shall be of self-closing and self- <br /> latching type,with the latch on the inside of the gate,not readily available fDr children to open <br /> Gates shall be capable of being securely locked when the pool is not in use. <br /> BARRED WIFE FENCES- No barbed wire fence shall be constructed within the limits ofthe City of Saint Paul <br /> unless the following conditions are complied with: <br /> 1) No barbed wire may be installed in a residential district or on a lot occupied residentially. <br /> 2) Barbed wire, not exceeding three strands,may be permitted on the top of a fence,providing that the arms do <br /> not project over public property. The minimum height of the bottom strand of barbed wire shall not be less <br /> than six feet(6) from finished grade. <br /> 3) In all cases where a barbed wire fence is requested, an application shall be made to the Budding Inspection and <br /> Design Division. <br /> 4) A certificate of insurance indemnifying the City of Saint Paul shall be submitted with the application subject to <br /> the approval of the City Attorney as to form and in amount as set forth in Minnesota Statutes, Section 466.04. <br /> (Form obtained from our Zoning Section) <br /> EL ECTRIFENCES - No above ground electric fence shall be constricted within the city limits of the City of Saint <br /> Paul, except at Carni Zoo for the containment ofzoo animals. <br />
