PRESS RELEASE
01-IL NAMED AS ST. ANTHONY POLICE CHIEF
The City of St. Anthony is pleased to announce that Capt. John A. Ohl has accepted the
position of Police Chief. Capt. Ohl has worked as a police officer with the City of St.
Anthony for 21 years, starting as a patrol officer in 1984. Through his years with the
Department, he has worked in many capacities, including Crime Prevention Officer,
Firearms Instructor, Use of Force Instructor, Criminal Investigator and Lieutenant in
charge of Criminal Investigations. In his current position as Captain, he has worked as
second-in-command for the Department, which at times has made him responsible for the
City's overall law enforcement operations.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Capt. Ohl has a Bachelor's Degree from
the University of Minnesota and certification for Police Management from the Minnesota
Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). He has attended the National Emergency
Response and Rescue Training Center's Course on Terrorism and Risk Assessment, the
U.S. Department of Homeland Securities Continuity of Operations, the University of
Southern Illinois Police Institute's Management of Small Law Enforcement Agencies, as
well as many other management and operations-related coursework.
Mike Morrison, St. Anthony City Manager, stated that based on Capt. Ohl's record with
the Department, his education, training, and extensive experience, the decision naming
him as the City's next police chief was an easy one for Morrison to make. Capt. Ohl
replaces retiring police chief, Richard Engstrom.
