' Speaker Biographies — Active Living Ramsey County Community Kick-off <br /> Ann Forsyth <br /> Ann Forsyth is Director of the Metropolitan Design Center at the University of Minnesota. Trained <br /> in planning and architecture, she focuses on social aspects of physical planning, urban design, and <br /> urban development. Forsyth has appointments in both the architecture and landscape architecture <br /> departments. She has won over forty awards, citations, and fellowships for individual and <br /> collaborative professional and research work. Her publications include over seventy-five reviews, <br /> monographs, chapters, and articles in planning, geography, and design journals. She has written <br /> three books: Constructing Suburbs: Competing Voices in a Debate Over Urban Growth (Gordon <br /> and Breach/Routledge, 1999), Reforming Suburbia: The Planned Communities of Irvine, <br /> Columbia, and The Woodlands (University of California Press, 2005), and Designing Small Parks: <br /> A Manual for Addressing Social and Ecological Concerns (with Laura Musacchio, Wiley, 2005). <br /> She is principal investigator of the Twin Cities Walking Study, funded by the Robert Wood <br /> Johnson Foundation. <br /> Rich Killingsworth <br /> Rich Killingsworth is Program Director for the Ruth Mott Foundation in Flint, Michigan. He is <br /> past Director of Active Living by Design, and was Associate Research Professor at the University <br /> of North Carolina School of Public Health. Rich served for 15 years in the federal government and <br /> was a health scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the lead <br /> interventionist on CDC's Active Community Environments Initiative, the first national effort to <br /> increase physical activity and improve health through community design and transportation <br /> alternatives. <br /> Mr. Killingsworth is one of a few public health practitioners collaborating with city planning, <br /> transportation, architecture, and outdoor recreation professionals to promote physical activity <br /> through built environment interventions. He has provided technical assistance to federal agencies, <br /> elected officials and national organizations. His media interviews include the New York Times, <br /> LA Times, Washington Post, Time, Chicago Tribune, ABC News and National Public Radio. <br /> Rich has presented and published extensively, and serves on several national organizations and <br /> boards. He is completing his Ph.D. in Architecture, Behavior and Culture at Georgia Institute of <br /> Technology. Rich.is an avid runner, cyclist, and hiker. <br /> Tyler Norris <br /> Tyler Norris is president of Community Initiatives Inc, a Boulder, Colorado-based firm dedicated <br /> to improving health and healthcare outcomes, revitalizing authentic democracy in the process. <br /> Tyler is founding co-Chair of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's National Leadership Alliance and <br /> NAC Chair of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Active Living by Design. Clients include: <br /> Kaiser Permanente, the American Hospital Association, and the YMCA of the USA. Tyler is <br /> President of the Kuhiston Foundation in Tajikistan, which helped start that nation's national park <br /> and micro-credit systems. He has served at the National Civic League, and as Director of the U.S. <br /> Coalition for Healthier Cities and Communities. <br /> Tyler has worked with over 350 communities and groups in the US and internationally, initiating <br /> civic, health, education and social ventures. Tyler is co-author of Communities that Learn <br /> (Community Initiatives, 2004) Trendbenders (American Hospital Association, 2002),Facilitating <br /> Community Change (Grove International, 2000) and the Community Indicators Handbook <br /> (Redefining Progress, 1997). He is a whitewater kayaker, mountain biker, backcountry skier, <br /> practitioner of Kriya yoga, and pilot. With Juliana Forbes, he is blessed with 2 children, Eliza 12 <br /> and Emmet 10. <br />
