1 neighborhoods committing to National Night Out activities scheduled for 2 August 5th. He reported that there were 10 neighborhoods last year. 3 The Chief reported on the status of the MPRS law suit. He indicated that 4 law enforcement will become more complicated in the future and as such, 5 the department will need to add another full -time police officer by 1999. He 6 has schedule police testing for August 13. This has been advertised in all 7 listed and suggested publications, with the exception of two; both telephone 8 numbers were disconnected. 9 2. Fire Department. The Fire Chief reported that they have started the process 10 to purchase pumper truck. He indicated that he will need to hire additional 11 part-time firefighters and volunteers. The Chief is currently reviewing the 12 City's Emergency Operations Plan and Code Enforcement issues. 13 3. Finance Department. The Finance Director reported that they have 14 completed the computer conversion in the Finance Department. The Tires 15 Plus account has been established and the new format for the Liquor 16 inventory system has been reviewed. He reported that the City 17 Hall /Community reservation scheduling has been going very well. The new 18 part-time accounting clerk has been a very welcomed addition to the 19 department. She has a very positive attitude and works really well with 20 Staff. He is currently working on upgrading the City's computer system 21 with the Management Assistant. 22 4. Liquor Department. The Liquor Operations Manager reported that the 23 construction of SAV II is going better than expected. The contractor has 24 been very easy to work with. Construction is expected to be completed by 25 mid- October. An October 20th opening date is anticipated. 26 He reported that the computerized inventory system is live in both stores. 27 He is planning to reconfigure the floor displays and layout at SAV I. He 28 indicated that he continues to work on changes proposed for the Stonehouse. 29 5. Public Works Department. The Public Works Director indicated that there 30 are future needs for the department that need to be considered. He reported 31 that because of an increased workload associated with various property 32 acquisitions and increases in service provision, the City will have to hire 33 additional staff. He indicated that the Parks will need at least one additional 34 person and Public Works will need an additional mechanic. 35 He reported the wading pool in Central Park needs to be reconstructed as it 36 leaks and is not level; there continues to be extensive vandalism at the City 37 parks, especially Emerald Park. 38 The City Council thanked the Department Heads for coming to the worksession. 39 VI. OTHER BUSINESS. 40 1. The City Manager reported that Mrs. Lloyd Helm has signed a purchase 41 agreement with the City and it will be on the agenda for consideration at the 42 August 12th City Council meeting.
