1 neighborhoods committing to National Night Out activities scheduled for <br />2 August 5th. He reported that there were 10 neighborhoods last year. <br />3 The Chief reported on the status of the MPRS law suit. He indicated that <br />4 law enforcement will become more complicated in the future and as such, <br />5 the department will need to add another full -time police officer by 1999. He <br />6 has schedule police testing for August 13. This has been advertised in all <br />7 listed and suggested publications, with the exception of two; both telephone <br />8 numbers were disconnected. <br />9 <br />2. Fire Department. The Fire Chief reported that they have started the process <br />10 <br />to purchase pumper truck. He indicated that he will need to hire additional <br />11 <br />part-time firefighters and volunteers. The Chief is currently reviewing the <br />12 <br />City's Emergency Operations Plan and Code Enforcement issues. <br />13 <br />3. Finance Department. The Finance Director reported that they have <br />14 <br />completed the computer conversion in the Finance Department. The Tires <br />15 <br />Plus account has been established and the new format for the Liquor <br />16 <br />inventory system has been reviewed. He reported that the City <br />17 <br />Hall /Community reservation scheduling has been going very well. The new <br />18 <br />part-time accounting clerk has been a very welcomed addition to the <br />19 <br />department. She has a very positive attitude and works really well with <br />20 <br />Staff. He is currently working on upgrading the City's computer system <br />21 <br />with the Management Assistant. <br />22 <br />4. Liquor Department. The Liquor Operations Manager reported that the <br />23 <br />construction of SAV II is going better than expected. The contractor has <br />24 <br />been very easy to work with. Construction is expected to be completed by <br />25 <br />mid- October. An October 20th opening date is anticipated. <br />26 <br />He reported that the computerized inventory system is live in both stores. <br />27 <br />He is planning to reconfigure the floor displays and layout at SAV I. He <br />28 <br />indicated that he continues to work on changes proposed for the Stonehouse. <br />29 <br />5. Public Works Department. The Public Works Director indicated that there <br />30 <br />are future needs for the department that need to be considered. He reported <br />31 <br />that because of an increased workload associated with various property <br />32 <br />acquisitions and increases in service provision, the City will have to hire <br />33 <br />additional staff. He indicated that the Parks will need at least one additional <br />34 <br />person and Public Works will need an additional mechanic. <br />35 He reported the wading pool in Central Park needs to be reconstructed as it <br />36 leaks and is not level; there continues to be extensive vandalism at the City <br />37 parks, especially Emerald Park. <br />38 The City Council thanked the Department Heads for coming to the worksession. <br />39 VI. OTHER BUSINESS. <br />40 1. The City Manager reported that Mrs. Lloyd Helm has signed a purchase <br />41 agreement with the City and it will be on the agenda for consideration at the <br />42 August 12th City Council meeting. <br />
