City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />January 8, 2008 <br />Page 3 <br />Mayor Faust thanked Commissioner Stenglein and Commissioner Ms. Rosemary Franzese for <br />their assistance with the trail connection. He stated he appreciates the prompt and courteous <br />response the City receives from Hennepin County. <br />Councilmember Thuesen thanked Hennepin County for the great maintenance of the trail system <br />so it is usable in the winter as well as all year long. <br />9 C. Presentation from Metropolitan Council Representative Lynette Wittsack. <br />10 <br />11 Representative Lynette Wittsack presented a history of the Metropolitan Council and information <br />12 regarding the direction of the Metropolitan Council for the future. She discussed new transit and <br />13 transportation options in St. Anthony. She stated new services include a Park & Ride at <br />14 Industrial Boulevard and 35W and a limited stop service from St. Anthony to the University of <br />15 Minnesota. She stated that 2008 would see a renewed interest in parks, a dialog with adjacent <br />16 counties on mutual interests and concern, and waste water treatment systems. <br />17 <br />18 Councilmember Thuesen questioned whether the Met Council took a position on the use of LED <br />19 lights. <br />20 <br />21 Representative Wittsack replied she did not know if the Met Council had taken a position at this <br />22 time. <br />23 <br />24 Mayor Faust commented a great deal of time was spent on III. He stated it is encouraging to hear <br />25 that the Met Council understands St. Anthony's issues. He thanked Representative Wittsack for <br />26 the information on the transportation opportunities. He complemented the Met Council on 40 <br />27 years of success. <br />28 <br />29 Representative Wittsack complimented Council on being the fast city to send in their <br />30 Comprehensive Plan. <br />31 <br />32 D. Resolution 08 -012, Variance for Lot Width at 3112 - 32nd Avenue NE <br />33 <br />34 Planning Commission Chair Stromgren presented the background on Resolution 08 -012. He <br />35 stated the Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the variance. He stated <br />36 two issues: 1) combined side yards did not meet the 15 -foot requirement and 2) the 25 -foot <br />37 height restriction have been revised by the applicant as required. <br />38 <br />39 Motion by Councilmember Gray, seconded by Councilmember Thuesen, to approve Resolution <br />40 08 -012, a Resolution for a Variance for Lot Width at 3112 — 32 "d Avenue NE. <br />41 <br />42 Councilmember Stille commented this reinforces the fact that the Code needs revision. He <br />43 stated that going forward it is important to research the hardship issue further. <br />44 <br />45 Motion carried unanimously (510) <br />46 <br />
