Mayor Faust replied there needs to be a preventive maintenance program; upfront costs are <br />2 normally cheaper than repairs. <br />3 <br />4 VII. REPORTS FROM CITY MANAGER AND COUNCILMEMBERS. <br />5 City Manager Morrison reported the following: <br />6 • There will be an Open Book meeting on April 4, 2006. <br />7 • Police and Fire Staff participated in Active Shooter Training on January 3, 2006. <br />8 • The chamber luncheon guest speaker is the police chief on January 17, 2006. <br />9 • The audit is currently underway. <br />10 • Security cameras will be installed in the Great Hall. <br />11 • City Council packets are now online. <br />12 • Ramsey County would like to hold a walkable community workshop, which discusses <br />13 making the community more walkable and creates a neighborhood task force. Staff <br />14 signed up for a grant for the Highcrest sidewalk. <br />15 • Roger Larson, Finance Director, was named department head of the year. <br />16 • There will be a Silver Lake Road Open House on January 23, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. to <br />17 8:30 p.m. Letters have been sent to all Silver Lake Road residents and packets will be <br />18 sent to the Task Force. The last Task Force meeting is January 30, 2006. <br />19 • The first school board meeting is January 31, 2006. <br />20 • The next City Council meeting will include a preliminary plan for Emerald Park. <br />21 . Department head reports will be given either March 28, 2006 or April 11, 2006. <br />22 <br />23 Mayor Faust asked if Staff has heard from Nextel. Mr. Morrison replied there will be a future <br />24 meeting and that they are still reviewing the latest numbers. <br />25 <br />26 Councilmember Gray recently stated he received the September 30, 2005 quarter end report on <br />27 the Northwest Youth and Family Services Program and as of that time dollars spent was $8,447, <br />28 which is definitely worth the contract dollars. <br />29 <br />30 Councilmember Horst stated he received a commitment letter to help with funding on the MN <br />31 Rocks project for Salo Park. <br />32 <br />33 Councilmember Stille had no report. <br />34 <br />35 Councilmember Thuesen had no report. <br />36 <br />37 Mayor Faust stated on January 5, 2006 he spoke with residents in apartments and nursing homes <br />38 and that it is important to talk with residents in different areas. He has once again been elected <br />39 vice chair of the MWO. He and the City Manager met with the cities of Lauderdale and Falcon <br />40 Heights to discuss contracts. He is pleased with the police chief and the efforts of the officers. <br />41 He added he had a conversation with an ex- coworker to look at possible GIS mapping and to <br />42 come up with an innovative ways to be more technological. <br />43 <br />44 VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. <br />45 Mayor Faust invited residents to come forward at this time and address the Council on items that <br />46 are not on the regular agenda. <br />47 <br />
