City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />April 12, 2005 <br />Page 8 <br />He thanked Autumn Woods and Chandler Place for their donations. He thanked the residents <br />2 that were affected by the Landscaping Award. <br />4 Councilmember Gray had no report. <br />6 Councilmember Horst indicated he attended the grand opening at Wal -Mart. He also attended <br />7 the Sister City meeting the previous week. He said one of the topics was the historical society. <br />8 He had mentioned that the city would have an intern and would be collecting historical artifacts <br />9 of the city. He said the members thought there already was a historian. He said they are <br />10 interested in having the Mayor attend the 20 -year relationship celebration in Finland. The group <br />11 will be requesting donations for this cause starting in September. <br />12 <br />13 Mayor Faust indicated that he attended the grand opening as well. He said it was motivating to <br />14 listen to how they begin a day at Wal -Mart. A total of $12,500 was given in donations to the <br />15 Children's Miracle Network, the St. Anthony Fire and Police Departments and the United Way, <br />16 to name a few. Mayor said that on the 23rd, he gave a report to the Kiwanis, and gave the City's <br />17 goals to them. The Council met with the School Board on the 29`', and the goals were given. <br />18 The School Board gave a report on the Blue Ribbon Financial Report. He said this can lend <br />19 support to the school's lobbying efforts. He noted the Golf Tournament kicks off on August 5`h. <br />20 <br />21 VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. <br />22 Mayor Faust invited residents to come forward at this time and address the Council on items that <br />are not on the regular agenda. <br />64 <br />25 Hearing none, Mayor Faust moved forward with the agenda. <br />26 <br />27 IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. <br />28 Mayor Faust stated there is a company that picks up brush for $69 /year, per a mailing he <br />29 received. <br />30 <br />31 Mayor Faust noted that May 71h is Clean Up Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Certain items can be <br />32 dropped off at City Hall for a nominal fee. <br />33 <br />34 Mayor Faust stated the Northwest Youth and Family Services second annual leadership luncheon <br />35 is scheduled for May 4. Councilmember Gray is the Board Director and will request a table. <br />36 Don Shelby will be the speaker. He pointed out it is not free, and donations will be requested. <br />37 <br />38 Mayor Faust said the City will be used as an example to the legislature as part of the State of the <br />39 Cities Report. He said the report shows the City is well - managed. <br />40 <br />41 The annual Open Book Board of Review was held last week. Both Hennepin County and <br />42 Ramsey County residents are in the city, and this provides a more relaxed way of doing business. <br />43 <br />44 Mr. Mornson announced the City will conduct a survey at the end of April, and said they would <br />appreciate the residents responding if they get a call. <br />,0 <br />
