Updates <br />New Fire Code adopted May 2nd, 2016. 2015 MN State Fire Code <br />Long Process – Sprinkler requirements <br />Staff being trained, Code is in effect <br />Increased Public Education in Schools <br />Working with Wilshire and St. Charles – Visit every grade at least once <br />State fire deaths to date – 20* <br />2014 – 44 <br />2015 – 57 13 year high - March/October 7 each, June/November 2 each <br />9 careless smoking, 4 unattended cooking, 24 undetermined cause, rest arson/suicide <br />45 year trend (1970) – steady decline from around 100 deaths a year to around 40 <br />Home Safety Surveys <br />New Program – started earlier this year <br />By Appointment – 30 to 45 minutes <br />Quick home safety survey – Fires, CO, Slips and Falls <br />Check smoke alarms for date and function <br />7 to 10 year life span on smoke alarms <br />Install up to three 10 year smoke alarms – no battery changes, end of life signal <br />Does not apply to rental living spaces i.e. apartments <br />Partnership with the American Red Cross for smoke alarms <br />Check CO alarm for date and function <br />Looking to possibly providing CO alarms also – 2 recent surveys had no CO alarm <br />39
