2016 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

28 | Page

Looking forward to 2017, our goal will continue to build our fire prevention messages and
education. We will achieve this by continuing with our own education. The State Fire Marshal’s
office offers many great classes and groups that we will continue to take advantage of, allowing
us to stay ahead of any new trends and bounce ideas off that other organizations are doing to
teach their community.

VII. Community Outreach
By Firefighter Joe Benik

Our main mission as a fire department in the City of St. Anthony is to assist
people within our community when they need it most. Whether it is a fire
related incident or a medical incident, it is our job to help out the
community in as many ways as we can, and are trained for. Aside from this, we also pride
ourselves on how much we reach out to the community in other ways also. The fire department
has many ways to interact with the public in times of non-emergency situations as well. We
have various programs in place that can help to improve safety and enrich lives. These
programs make an emergent situation go a little smoother for those involved, or can help to
keep an incident from escalating through advanced warning and knowledge. A few of our
community outreach programs include the File of Life Program, Home Safety Surveys,
instructing CPR courses at both the fire station and to all 9th grade Health classes at the High
School annually. Training community members in CPR helps our community continue to
improve itself as a Heart Safe Community as designated by the Minnesota Department of
Health and The American Heart Association. Here is a breakdown of what these programs
entail.

FILE OF LIFE
The File of Life program has been implemented for a number of years, but a concerted effort
was made recently to get this program moving forward.
