2016 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

43 | Page

X. In Summary
I made reference at the beginning of this report to the saying “non sibi”. It is a term that I believe
represents the actions and choices made by the members of this department, whether they have the
uniform on or not. Putting others first is something that we witness on a day to day basis by the folks
that wear our badge. Whether it is a severe storm that affects their own home or a request by another
community for assistance, they still show up to put on their gear and help others if even for a little
while. If it is a weekend or even a holiday, they drop what they are doing to come back and serve the
community because that is what is engrained in them.
In today’s venomous society, finding people that follow the “not for self” value is getting harder and
harder to find. I cannot tell you enough how the men and women of this department deserve the letters
of thanks or the hugs from the patient or family member. It means so much to them when they receive
that simple gesture. It is not solicited nor is it expected but it is appreciated. To sum it up, they do what
they do because it is in that act of giving back that feeds their spirit and their drive.
As I have stated in past reports, my goal of this report is to paint a picture of what the men and women
of this department do on a daily basis. To show their dedication to medical and fire calls, continuous
training, public education, public relations and making businesses safer through inspections. To focus
on our priorities of keeping the public safe with the ultimate goal of going home to our families at the
end of it.
With that I respectfully submit my 2016 annual report.

Mark S.
