27
To: St. Anthony Village Honorable Mayor and Planning Commission
Mark Casey, City Manager
From: Ryan and Jody McNaughton, 3205 31" Avenue NE, Saint Anthony, MN 55418
Date: 6/26/2017
RE: WSB Project No. 0- 010201 -000, Request for Variance to the rear yard setback requirement to
allow a deck to be set back 17 feet from rear property line, a reduction from the required 25 -foot rear
yard setback for the property address of 3204 Townview Avenue.
We are the owners immediately to the south of 3204 Townview Avenue, and it is our property line
against which the above variance is being requested.
We are against the granting of the variance due to the fact that the proposed deck would materially
diminish the privacy of our property. What the applicants' proposal neglects to consider is the natural
downhill slope of the two lots from North to South. See the below picture of the view from the back of
our house to the applicants' house.
Combined with the recently extended depth of the applicants' house — already significantly greater than
most of the rest of the houses on their block —the position of a raised deck would give the applicants an
unsettling view directly into our bedroom (and home office and living room). This is, of course,
undesirable for us and would most likely force us to seek relief by putting up a fence on the property
line in order to restore our privacy, something we would find burdensome to do.
Thank you for your consideration.
