City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />May 9, 2017 <br />Page 4 <br />2 Councilmember Jenson stated on April 13, he attended the St. Anthony Chamber Meeting. On <br />3 April 22, eight Kiwanis high school kids assisted in cleaning Salo Park ponds. On May 2, he <br />4 attended the North Suburban Communications Meeting. <br />Councilmember Stille stated on May 6, he attended clean-up day. <br />8 Councilmember Gray stated the Village Fest was looking for a Parade Committee Chair and one <br />9 was found so there will be a parade this year. <br />10 <br />11 Mayor Faust noted he was at clean-up day and gave a brief description of the event. He <br />12 commended City Staff on their work. On May 8, he attended the Regional Council of Mayors <br />13 Meeting and on May 9, he attended the Mississippi Water Management Meeting. <br />14 <br />15 VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. <br />16 <br />17 Ms. Jenny Latte, 2601 Kenzie Terrance, Kenzington Building. She has lived in St. Anthony for <br />18 five years. She is not opposed to the project as a whole but is opposed to the size and scope of <br />19 the project. She never imagined tall buildings would be built and she would like to see the <br />20 density reduced to the lower level (375 -600 units). She is opposed to the height and proximity of <br />21 the buildings to Kenzington Building as her view will be obstructed. She would like to see the <br />22 buildings 3 -4 stories. She believes the plan as it stands now does not fit into the neighborhood. <br />23 She would like to work with the developer and City to make this a project all can be proud of <br />24 <br />25 Mayor Faust stated Council said from the beginning it should have the look and feel of Silver <br />26 Lake Village, noting that nothing official has been received from the developer. He stated the <br />27 Comp Plan should be followed, affordable housing offered, and it needs to be compatible with <br />28 surrounding land uses. Protection of the environment is also very important along with a fair and <br />29 open process. He stated there will be a public hearing where residents can voice their opinion. He <br />30 stated that he and Councilmembers have not spoken with the developer outside of the Council <br />31 Meetings. This was a land purchase between two parties. <br />32 <br />33 Reverend Lawton, pastor at Northeast United Church located near the Lowry Grove Trailer Park, <br />34 stated she is not a resident of St. Anthony and urged Council to come up with affordable housing <br />35 options in St. Anthony. She would like Council to evaluate their plans through faith. Mayor <br />36 Faust stated affordable price will not be the same as the price to live in Lowry Grove. <br />37 <br />38 Ms. Mel Chaput, 3537 Coolidge Street NE, read three paragraphs from a recent StarTribune <br />39 article about how Richfield handled the loss of affordable housing. She is concerned that the City <br />40 Council has not been proactive with handling issues but instead have been reactive. She urged <br />41 the Council to think about the residents of Lowry Grove. She wants to keep these residents in St. <br />42 Anthony. <br />43 <br />44 Ms. Antonia Alvarez, 2501 Lowry Avenue, Lowry Grove, invited the Council to meet with the <br />45 Lowry Grove residents as they want Council support for the residents. She stated they have only <br />
