In addition, it ensures that the City Code
is reflective of what is desired for the community. In an effort to prioritize issues/topics that staff and the
Planning Commission felt needed to be reviewed / updated, the Planning Commission created a "Work
Plan ". The Work Plan is a schedule of objectives established by the Planning Commission, which
provides an efficient method of prioritizing projects and achieving the most important goals of the
Planning Commission and the community. The 2013 Work Plan was approved by the Planning
Commission at their regular meeting on January 28, 2013. The City Council, at their regular meeting on
April 12, 2013, approved the Work Plan as presented by the Planning Commission.
One of the first items listed on the Planning Commission's Work Plan included the review / update of the
City's Fence Ordinance. Initial discussions relating to reviewing/updating the City's Fence Ordinance
first began on November 19, 2012. At that meeting the Planning Commission directed staff to begin to
prepare draft language based on the modifications discussed at that meeting.
Draft language was prepared and presented to the Planning Commission at a work session on March 25,
2013. The meeting was not intended to resolve potential issues or opportunities with the existing fence
ordinance, but rather to serve as an opportunity for discussion and to establish a starting point for
potential future changes. Following the March work session, staff modified the draft language and
presented updated draft language at the April 22, 2013 work session of the Planning Commission. Final
edits to the draft language were discussed and updated.
At this time, staff is requesting review and comments from the City Council relating to the proposed draft
text language relating to the City's fence ordinance. Proposed changes to the text will need to be further
reviewed by the City Attorney (as may be necessary) and brought back to the Planning Commission for a
public hearing at a later date. The double underlined text shows the additions and the strikethretagh text
shows the deletions.
