2017 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

47 | Page

XII. In Summary
Being a part of the Fire Service is truly an honor in so many ways. It is a profession where
people open their doors to a stranger whom they have never met and freely allow that man or
woman to take care of their loved one. It could be their 81 year old spouse of 60 years or their 3
year old child that is the light of their life. It is that trust that is put before us every day which
makes this job so humbling and rewarding.
But with that trust comes the expectation that a well-trained, professional, kind and calm
firefighter will be there to help them out when they need it. Whether it’s someone having
difficulty breathing, a simple lift assist or a structure fire, we need to exceed those expectations
every opportunity that we get.
This past year, the men and women of this department were given that opportunity 1621 times
when 911 was called by residents looking for help. But that is not the only time that we are able
to serve. They were also given opportunities when we knelt on a classroom floor to educate a
group of 3rd graders; or when we stood at the front of a community room in a senior high rise
and talked about severe weather and how to prepare.
The continued dedication to exceeding expectations through service and care is something that
is a true part of our culture at this department. The men and women that work for St. Anthony
Fire come to work prepared for duty to the residents and non-residents of this community.
As their Fire Chief, I am very honored and humbled to be serving shoulder to shoulder with
firefighters that truly believe in what they are doing and continue to exceed the expectations of
those we serve. I cannot say thank you enough to these members who put others first and avoid
the spotlight in doing so. That is true commitment, pride and integrity in all of the ways
possible.
With that I respectfully submit my 2017 annual report.

Mark S. Sitarz
Fire Chief
