City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />April 10, 2018 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br /> 1 <br />Councilmember Stille stated he supports the request, noting this is quite a large variance at 17.5 2 <br />feet but would fit nicely into the neighborhood. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Motion by Councilmember Jenson, seconded by Councilmember Gray, to approve Resolution 5 <br />18-03; a Resolution Approving a Request for a 17.5-foot variance from the rear yard setback to 6 <br />allow for placement of a proposed sunroom 7.5 feet from the property line at 3421 Skycroft 7 <br />Drive. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Motion Carried 5-0. 10 <br /> 11 <br />VI. GENERAL BUSINESS OF COUNCIL. 12 <br /> 13 <br />A. Resolution 18-034; a Resolution to approve a request to keep four (4) chickens in an R-1 14 <br />zoning district at 3600 Coolidge Street NE. 15 <br /> 16 <br />City Manager Casey reviewed a request that was received from the Applicants on March 26, 17 <br />2018 to keep chickens on their property. The applicant provided a site plan showing the location 18 <br />and dimensions of the proposed enclosure on the property, as well as a written request to the City 19 <br />Council. 20 <br /> 21 <br />The Applicants (Kevin and Kara Coppinger) provided a written request and diagram showing the 22 <br />location and dimensions of the chicken coop in relation to their property. The Applicant states 23 <br />that the coop will be located along the western side of the house and be located adjacent to an 24 <br />existing deck, next to the house, away from the property lines. The coop will be 91” long, 39” 25 <br />wide, and 49” high – a total of 24.6 square feet. All chickens will be female. The Applicants 26 <br />have spoken with both neighbors that share a property line with and received verbal approval. 27 <br />The back yard has an 8-foot privacy fence around the perimeter of the property. 28 <br /> 29 <br />Staff recommends City Council adopt the resolution. 30 <br /> 31 <br />The applicants were present but did not have anything to add to staff’s report. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Councilmember Stille noted the resolution does not specify female chickens. Ms. Coppinger 34 <br />stated the request is for only female chickens. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Motion by Councilmember Gray, seconded by Councilmember Jenson, to approve Resolution 37 <br />18-034; a Resolution to approve a request to keep four (4) chickens in an R-1 Zoning District at 38 <br />3600 Coolidge St NE. 39 <br />Motion Carried 5-0 40 <br /> 41 <br />B. Resolution 18-035; a Resolution supporting the Contamination grant application 42 <br />submitted to the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) by 43 <br />The Village, LLC for Environmental Remediation at 2501 Lowry Avenue. 44 <br /> 45 <br />5
