St. Anthony 2040 Comprehensive Plan Chapter 8: Water Supply <br />145 <br /> <br />CHAPTER 8: WATER SUPPLY <br />EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />Introduction <br />The City of St. Anthony’s Comprehensive Water Supply Plan describes the <br />City’s existing water distribution system and water demands, projects future <br />water demands through the year 2040, and proposes infrastructure <br />improvements to accommodate those demands. This Plan has been <br />prepared according to the guidelines established by the Metropolitan <br />Council and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The <br />Water Supply Plan immediately following this report follows the template <br />provided by the DNR, while this Comprehensive Water Supply Plan <br />expands upon the template and provides further information for City and <br />Metropolitan Council planning. <br />Existing System <br />The City of St. Anthony’s water distribution system provides nearly 300 <br />million gallons of water each year to about 2,330 service connections. The <br />system draws groundwater from three wells and is treated at the water <br />treatment plant in the center of the City and stored between one ground <br />storage tank and one water tower. The City has a single pressure zone, <br />apart from the neighborhood just south of St. Anthony High School where <br />pressures are augmented by a booster station located inside the Advanced <br />Oxidation Process (AOP) Water Treatment Plant. <br />Population and Water Demand <br />The population served by the City’s water system has stayed constant over <br />the last ten years. However, total water demands and per capita demands <br />have been steadily decreasing, especially in the last five years. Higher <br />efficiency appliances, reduced irrigation, general attitudes toward <br />conservation, rainfall, and climate likely all play a role in that trend. <br />
