Zoning Text Amendment Review <br />•The request differentiates between family child care and child <br />care centers. <br />–Under state statute, child care centers can have larger enrollments, <br />characterized by a location other than the provider’s or caregiver’s <br />home. <br />•A zoning text amendment would add a new use to the <br />permitted, interim, and conditional uses, as currently the <br />zoning code only permits family child care, provided in the <br />caregiver’s home. <br />•The zoning ordinance does not currently allow child care <br />facilities serving more than 16 persons in any zoning district. <br />•The use is one of the conditional uses specifically listed for the <br />district in which the property is located; <br />–Criterion not met <br />•The City Council has specified all conditions which the City Council <br />deems necessary to make the use compatible with other uses in the <br />area; <br />–Criterion met <br />•The use will not be detrimental to the health, safety, or general <br />welfare of persons residing or working in the vicinity or to the <br />values of property in the vicinity; and <br />–Criterion met <br />•The use will provide a service or a facility which is in the interest of <br />public convenience and will contribute to the general welfare. <br />–Criterion met <br />Conditional Use Permit Review <br />35
