The Preferred Route was the recommended
route of the Regional Trail Workgroup who worked closely
with staff over the course of several months on the route
possibilities. The CAC made a recommendation of the route
and considerations to provide a framework for MPRB in
the development of the GRML with the understanding that
MPRB cannot go at this alone, and that ongoing coordination
with the local neighborhoods, business owners, the City of
Minneapolis, the City of Saint Anthony, Hennepin County,
the UofM and other stakeholders is the only way forward to
realize the Grand Rounds vision.
BOUNDARY AND ACQUISITION
Each route concept passes through a wide variety of landuse
types and through and along other public agency right of
way and numerous privately owned properties. The City of
Minneapolis, the County and BNSF Railroad own almost all
the right of way. The University of Minnesota is a major land
holder along the route as well as the owner and operator of
the University of MN Transitway.
FIGURE 23 |ZONING ALONG PROPOSED GRML
ROUTES
FIGURE 24 |OWNERSHIP ALONG GRML ROUTES
ZONING OWNERSHIP
Railroad PropertiesB4-B4S
City of MinneapolisC1-C2
University of MinnesotaC3A-C3S
Minneapolis Park BoardC4
Commercial / ResidentialI1-I3
OR1-OR3
R1-R2B
R3-R6
Hennepin
Uni
v
e
r
s
i
t
y
35-W
35-W
Como IndustrialS
t
.
An
tho
n
y
P
a
r
kw
a
y
Hennepin
Uni
v
e
r
s
i
t
y
35-W
35-W
Como IndustrialS
t
.
An
tho
n
y
P
a
r
kw
a
y
At Grade Crossing At Grade Crossing
Raised Crossing Raised Crossing
Trail Crosses River Trail Crosses River
Downtown Minneapolis Downtown Minneapolis
Gross GolfCourse
Gross GolfCourse
Parkway to the RiverParkway to the River
261
