2018 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

25 | P a g e

the AHA’s Chain Of Survival! We found that many of our local businesses and offices have
access to an AED! All of this put together allowed the American Heart Association to designate
the City of St. Anthony as a Heart Safe Community! In 2018 we continued to make the effort to
improve our community by offering and giving CPR courses by certified instructors on the fire
department. With this ongoing training and AED availability, the City of St. Anthony recertified
in 2018 as a Heart Safe Community and will continue to strive forward as Heart Safe
Community.
As a Heart Safe Community it is in our interests to see that there is a way to be proactive when
it comes to your heart health. One way we can do this as firefighters is to offer Blood Pressure
Checks at our fire station. Whether you are just curious about what your blood pressure is or
are monitoring it for your doctor, stop by and have a firefighter check it out for you! Free of
charge and a track record can be kept on file for you if you desire. But always remember, do not
be afraid to call 911 if you are experiencing something that may be a medical issue. The fastest
way for you to get help is to call 911.

NIGHT TO UNITE
Night To Unite is a participation night for the whole City of St. Anthony. This is a night when
many residents organize “Block Parties” to get out and visit with others in their immediate
neighborhood. These gatherings are set up in advance and the Public Works Department will
get a set of street barricades set out in order to block off traffic on your block for the evening.
This is a great opportunity to meet others in the area, have a bite to eat and share stories with
each other. This is a wonderful community interaction night spearheaded by the police
department as a way to promote community togetherness and community safety. The fire
department along with other City of St. Anthony staff and City Council Board members may
also stop by and say hello. The list of these Block Parties continues to grow each year, which is a
testament to the involvement of our City of St. Anthony residents, as well as city staff. We as a
fire department make every attempt to bring personnel and an apparatus to each individual
block party that the city is made notice of. This is an opportunity for children of all ages to
interact with a fire apparatus, ask questions, and to get to know the people on the fire
department who are serving the City of St. Anthony.
