City Council Regular Meeting Minutes
April 9, 2019
Page 9

1
Councilmember Jenson stated he had no report. 2
3
Mayor Faust stated he attended the meeting with Councilmember Stille on March 29, 2019, with 4
Senator Laine. He stated that on March 27, 2019, he also had the opportunity to attend the 5
service awards for the employees. 6
7
VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. 8
9
Mayor Faust invited residents to come forward at this time and address the Council on items that 10
are not on the regular agenda. 11
12
John Prokopiuk, 4018 Shamrock Drive, asked about the status of the empty Walmart “elephant.” 13
14
Mayor Faust explained that typically the Council doesn’t answer questions as part of the 15
Community Forum. 16
17
Mr. Prokopiuk stated that it has been empty for a long time and would like to know if there were 18
any plans for the area. 19
20
City Manager Casey stated that one of the actions that was taken as part of the Comprehensive 21
Plan discussion was that the City amended the zoning to allow for the opportunity to have multi-22
family within a commercial district. He stated that this change has brought the interest of some 23
developers to the area. He stated that the property is not owned by the City and is completely 24
privately owned. He reiterated that there is no concrete plan but there has been some interest 25
expressed in the property. 26
27
Mayor Faust stated that the City’s goal is to get something in this location that creates economic 28
activity but the City has to wait for someone to bring a plan before the Council. 29
30
Councilmember Stille stated that he also believes that there is a ground lease in place with 31
Walmart until 2025. 32
33
Hearing no additional comment, Mayor Faust moved forward with the agenda. 34
35
IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. 36
37
Mayor Faust noted that the Village Notes came out on April 1, 2019. He stated that for the 38
Mayors Water Challenge, if you go on the website to sign in, do not use “St.” for Saint, but spell 39
it out in its entirety. 40
41
X.
