<br /> pg. 1 <br />ST ANTHONY SISTER CITY ASSOCATION, INC <br />Fact Sheet <br />What is Sister City? <br />A community-based volunteer organization providing opportunities for City of St Anthony residents to <br />develop long-term relationships with the people of Salo, Finland through cultural exchanges, educational, <br />municipal, professional, technical and youth programs. A sister city program enables the citizens of both <br />communities become directly involved in international relations. <br /> <br />The Sister Cities program was created by President Eisenhower in 1956 to promote personal exchanges <br />between Americans and the peoples of other lands to understand, appreciate, and celebrate their <br />differences while building partnerships. . <br /> <br />Our Mission: <br />The St. Anthony Sister City Association is a non-profit citizen diplomacy organization that creates and <br />strengthens partnerships between Salo, Finland and St. Anthony, Minnesota USA and promotes cultural <br />understanding in an effort to: <br /> Increase global cooperation at the municipal and school level <br /> Stimulate economic development and <br /> Conduct long-term programs of mutual benefit. <br /> <br />Vision: <br />Making the world smaller through citizen diplomacy. <br /> <br />Why have a Sister City? <br />A sister city program is an incredible opportunity to travel, build partnerships, promote peace and <br />understanding, and have fun. The benefits to individuals and the community at large include: <br />• Make new friends around the world, learn about other cultures as well as your own <br />• Allows municipal employees and other professionals to learn from their international counterparts, <br />and to promote their own best practices around the world <br />• Art and cultural exchanges <br />• International business opportunities for local firms <br />• Flexibility of sister cities allows for almost any type of exchange, and lets people pursue activities <br />that they are passionate about <br />• Creates a civic organization that anyone in the community can participate in, regardless of <br />profession or background <br />• Be a part of a decades-long peacebuilding movement started by one of our Presidents <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
