9 <br />- The City of Shoreview achieved designation as a GreenStep City from the Minnesota Pollution <br />Control Agency in January of 2013, progressed to Step 3 and is in the process of achieving Step <br />4. <br />-The City’s Environmental Quality Committee hosts an annual speaker series on environmental <br />topics. Topics covered this year included how to help pollinators. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City shall undertake its best efforts to reverse pollinator decline by <br />adopting new policies and practices that protect pollinators, including: <br />- The City of Shoreview is in the process of adopting changes to ordinances in order to make it <br />easier to keep honeybees. <br />- The Public Works Department will pursue planting more pollinator forage in appropriate <br />locations on City property including Shoreview Commons. <br />- The City shall seek to clarify guidelines against the use of neonicotinoid pesticides and pesticide- <br />treated plants. <br />- The Community Development Department will encourage developers seeking permits to plant <br />more pollinator forage where appropriate. <br />- The City Planning Commission and Environmental Quality Committee shall also encourage <br />private developers to incorporate pollinator friendly plantings into required landscaping. <br />- The City of Shoreview shall support efforts to educate the broader community about the action <br />it has taken and the importance of creating and maintaining pollinator friendly habitat. <br />- The City of Shoreview shall post a copy of this resolution to the City website and periodically <br />post a Pollinator Friendly Activities Report in the City newsletter ShoreViews. <br />- The City shall review and revise the current Integrated Pest Management Plan to better <br />accomplish the goal of controlling pests with the least possible disruption to ecosystems. <br />-The City shall host the St. Paul Audubon Society’s “Landscape Revival” Native Plant Sale and <br />Market in 2018 and into the future. <br />- Shoreview shall manage for pollinators by selecting native plantings for any future City <br />stormwater management projects. <br />- The City will not mow rain gardens and other native plantings throughout Shoreview where bees <br />may overwinter. <br />- The City shall pursue a reduction in the use of herbicides on managed lawns <br />- The Department of Public Works shall be responsible for ensuring the success of the agenda <br />presented in this resolution. <br />R6 <br />R7 <br />R8 <br />R9 <br />R10 <br />R11 <br />R12 <br />R13 <br />R14 <br />R15 <br />R16 <br />R17 <br />R18 <br />R19 <br />R20 <br />R21
