'Parks Commission Meeting Minutes May 10, 2004 Page 5 1 2 Chair Jindra thanked Mr. Bolsby for his time stating that they would update the City Council and School 3 Board on the services they provide. 4 5 Commissioner Ganley stated that he recently spoke with several people, Principal Keith, Mr. Nicholas, 6 Mr. Urdahl and Mr. Dunn, regarding a Senior Class Tree Donation program. He reviewed with the 7 Commission stating that the intent would be, beginning with this year's graduating class, that the senior 8 class would donate a tree each that would be planted along the School/Trail boundary areas. He stated 9 that over time they would install plaques for each class year noting that it would eventually develop into 10 a very nice shading system in the area. He reviewed the process and suggested that the Commission 11 present the program to Council for funding consideration to begin the donation process this year. He 12 reviewed the program noting that time is short if they want to begin the donation program this year. He 13 stated that he has researched the costs for a tree noting that it would cost approximately $120.00 for the 14 tree. He stated that Nr. Nicholas plans to discuss this at their next Student Council meeting adding that 15 it is their hope that they could have a decision on the program prior to the Student Council meeting. 16 17 Chair Jindra asked Public Works Director Hartman if he thought installing a small plaque on tree would 18 be a problem. Public Works Director Hartman stated that he would check into it noting that the tree 19 donation program is very good idea. 20 Chair Jindra noted that Eric Perkins from Channel 11 was at dedication. She stated that it was her 22 understanding that the film would be shown on May 18th. Commissioner Gebhardt noted that it was 23 aired on the Saturday night news. 24 25 Chair Jindra stated that she would also present the Tree Donation Program to City Council tomorrow 26 night, along with the Grand Opening presentation. 27 28 Commissioner Ganley asked if the Student Council representative should contact Public Works Director 29 Hartman to coordinate the tree planting. Public Works Director Hartman stated that he would work with 30 the school on the securing of the tree and the planting. 31 32 VII.
