She suggested
considering a temporary area for skateboarding until a more permanent area could be
implemented into the Central Park redevelopment.
Additionally, Jindra stated that she had become aware of an organization entitled ACTION
(Adults and Children Together In Our Neighborhood), of which City Councilmember Amy
Sparks is a member. Jindra stated it was her understanding that the ACTION organization might
be an avenue that would be willing to provide assistance.
Public Works Director Jay Hartman expressed his belief that it is imperative that a skateboarding
I l area be included in the redevelopment of Central Park. In this respect, Mr. Hartman distributed
to the Commission a brochure which pictured a permanent type of skateboarding structure and
stated that he could obtain dollar figures at the direction of the Commission.
Jindra supported providing a temporary structure and then incorporating a permanent structure
into the plans for Central Park.
Ganley reminded the Commission of a previous consideration regarding the utilization of space
on the North side of the Community Center. Jindra agreed it was an initial consideration but that
it is close to the playground area.
City Council Liaison Brian Thuesen recommended that the Commission meet with Community
Services to obtain feedback about utilizing the space on the North side of the building. Jindra of -
fered to speak with Community Services or to ask Community Services Representative Diana
Roadfeldt to do so.
School Board Representative Denise Dunn stated her belief that there is another group that is
working on the skateboarding issue as well and that grants are being considered.
Council Liaison Thuesen recommended that concrete information and figures be obtained prior
to approaching the City Council for support.
Jindra mentioned that City Councilmember Amy Sparks had requested that a member from the
Parks Commission attend a meeting on the skateboarding issue, but a date had not yet been set.

Sports Boosters Representative George Zurbey suggested the possibility of the upper level of the
high school parking lot for an area that could be utilized for the summer for skateboarding.
Jindra suggested that School Board Representative Denise Dunn present this matter to the School
Board for consideration.
