Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
August 14, 2000
Page 4
Jindra wanted to note for the record that the Commission would not be in favor of raising taxes.
Koehntop noted that the Commission's job is simply to recommend a inulti-use park to the Coun-
cil and the Council will take the financing and details of that project from there.
Hartman noted that City Manager Mike Mornson has applied for a $100,000 grant on behalf of
the City for Central Park and notices will be mailed on Tuesday, August 15. Jindra noted the possibility of having shuttles run from the Community
Center for the opening.
Additionally, Jindra noted that a specific date for the grand opening would need to be chosen at a
later date.
Jindra distributed a copy of a letter dated July 20, 2000 from Hennepin Parks regarding the Park
District's interest in the Salvation Army property located in St. Anthony. Jindra noted that she
had asked Thuesen to review this issue. Thuesen noted that after review of the issue and some
discussions regarding the same, that personally he was in favor of this issue moving forward.
According to the letter, the Park District has contacted the Salvation Army seeking the opportu-
nity to further explore alternatives regarding the acquisition of the Salvation Army site.
Koehntop inquired if this issue could be discussed at the City Council meeting in September
2000, after the intensity of the Apache Plaza issue has declined.
