Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
May 1, 2001
Page 5
I Chair Jindra identified three sources whose support is critical: the City Council, the school, and the
Sports Boosters. Commissioner Gebhardt indicated that the contaminated soil is standing as a major
problem right now, and that those groups need to understand that.
The Commission discussed their options.
Mr. Kost stated that the Engineers Estimate was $1,855,834. He indicated that after they factor in
the additions and deductions, the total is $1,747,614.
Commissioner Zurbey suggested that the Commission determine where they could change the specs
in order to reduce the cost of this project. Mr. Kost suggested reducing the soil profile by half, to
$300,000. However, he stated that he did not want to see the soil depth go below 8 inches.
The Commission decided that all would attend the next City Council meeting where the bids would
I be presented.

Motion by Ganley to proceed with option A: the low bid from Veit and Company which represents
$1,915,567, 11% over the engineers estimate.
Motion carried unanimously.
V. REPORTS.
A. Community Services.
is None.
B. School Board
None.
C. Sports Booster.
George Zurbey indicated that they informed everyone that they can not schedule time for
the use of the athletic field after May 31". Commissioner Jenson asked the Commission
if it were possible to use the field two days after the scheduled close date for an alumni
football game.

VI. OTHER BUSINESS.
Chair Jindra asked if everyone had a chance to go down to Silver Point Park and see where Ms.
Olivier had sectioned off an area to show where the storage and mechanical area would be
located. The storage and mechanical area was moved to the front of the building with an
overhang, where it will not affect the path.
Chair Jindra reviewed the changes Ms. Olivier made to the Central Park Pavillion, where she has
put some of the mechanical and storage space up above, which should reduce the price a little
more.
