3

Emerald Park (City Park Field):
• Field Access Opening Deflection Fencing – additions to the existing “dugouts-to-field” access
points on the field. (see A1 on diagram EP).
After the Field Visits, we confirmed that we would like to continue to pursue Fixed Pieces of
Fencing for these openings, which are wider than at Wilshire Park (ie: wider than normal Gate
openings).
Fencing should be at the height of the existing adjacent fencing (in front of the dugouts), be
approximately 4 ft. in length, affixed to the fencing in front of the dugout(s), and should be
angled at 45 degrees to the existing fencing, opening back, away from the backstop (simulating
a “dugouts-to-field” gate that has been left partially open).
Such Fencing would provide enhanced Player safety (when in the dugouts, or preparing to enter
the field from what could be described as an ‘in the hole’ position), and would provide
enhanced Spectator safety for Spectators back on the grass behind the Field Openings, as the
Gates would provide a Stop/Deflection Shield from the (common) errant batted and/or thrown
balls.

(B) Additional Items - Potentially Synergistic:

Wilshire Park Elementary School Field (School District Field):
• Addition of two additional Gates for “dugouts-to-field” access points on the field.
The field access for Players is effectively limited to the single openings by the ‘home plate end’
of each dugout area. This makes for a bit of a bottleneck, and slows games a bit by lengthening
the time between inning halves, while players ‘bottleneck’ trying to get off, or on the field. In
our Field Visits, we noted that there are “major” vertical fence poles situated at the ‘outfield
end’ of each dugout area.
Cutting openings in the fence for Gate installation at this point – and replacing the fencing with
Gates, that would swing from each “major” vertical pole (and be the same height as the fence
that is currently there) would provide quicker access for players to get on, and off, the field,
improving the game timing. While perhaps not cost-benefit worthy as an independent project,
including this as a part of the (A) items solutions may prove to be synergistic enough to merit
doing at the same time. (see B1 on diagram WP).

Emerald Park (City Park Field):
• (no additional items which are obviously potentially synergistic, but please see section C).
