City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />February 26, 2020 <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />Councilmember Webster asked for clarification on the age of the demographics with twenty 1 <br />percent of the population were children. Mr. Casey stated the twenty percent are birth to five. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Councilmember Walker asked approximately how long the tour of the City takes. Mr. Casey 4 <br />explained the process and indicated the time depends on how many questions are asked and 5 <br />information requested. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Mayor Stille thanked Mr. Casey and all of the staff for the hard work done on this report. 8 <br /> 9 <br />VII. REPORTS FROM CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL MEMBERS. 10 <br /> 11 <br />Councilmember Webster stated she attended Coffee with the Council at Autumn Woods with 12 <br />Mayor Stille on Saturday, February 15th. There were about a dozen community members that 13 <br />attended that event. She really liked the event and getting to know people. She also noted on 14 <br />February 21st, Metro Cities hosted a session put on by the Minnesota Housing Departments on 15 <br />how to access State resources for affordable housing. There was some remarkable data on the 16 <br />shortage of housing across the State along with the shortage of affordable housing as well. One 17 <br />of the pieces shared at the event was for senior age 65 to 74, that is the least likely age group to 18 <br />move and the trends are certainly showing aging in place. She also indicated she has a goal to 19 <br />meet with all of the department heads and has appreciated meeting with Chief Mangseth, and 20 <br />Ms. Rueckert the City’s Finance Director along with Mr. Hartman the Public Works Director. 21 <br />Two things she has appreciated about those meetings is it has allowed her to learn more about 22 <br />their commitment, not only to the City but to the residents as well and it has also been fun to 23 <br />learn more about their three, five- and ten-year goals for their departments. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Councilmember Randle stated on behalf of Sister Cities they are still looking for residents who 26 <br />are willing to host their friends from Salo and if anyone is interested in hosting to contact himself 27 <br />or Bonnie Brever or anyone from Sister Cities. He noted the date’s needs are July 25, 2020 to 28 <br />August 4, 2020. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Mayor Stille stated on February 12, 2020 he attended the Hickory Hog ribbon cutting ceremony 31 <br />and this is a unique business that started out of a food truck. He noted this is a homegrown 32 <br />product and the food is really good. 33 <br /> 34 <br />Councilmember Jenson stated on February 14th he attended the Ramsey County Local League of 35 <br />Governments and at the meeting were guest speakers Susan Brower, the State Demographer and 36 <br />Julie Woods, the Ramsey County Policy Director, and they are part of this Complete Count 37 <br />Committee that is represented by the State and talked a lot about how the State is going to ensure 38 <br />access to apartment buildings for the Census. There was also talk about expanding or developing 39 <br />the strategic direction on moving community engagement activities. He explained on February 40 <br />15th he also attended the Coffee with the Council event. Three things talked about were trying to 41 <br />understand the affordable housing system and process how that works and there was talk about 42 <br />some developments and identification along Kenzie Terrace and advertising on fencing. Plus, 43 <br />the group really wanted to make a point that a lot of good things that are happening in St. 44 <br />Anthony that could be better published. He thought it was a very good meeting. He stated on 45 <br />February 20th he attended the Metro Cities Board of Directors meeting and the guest speaker 46 <br />13
