Administration Department

Our mission is to be a progressive and welcoming
Village that is walkable, sustainable and safe
3301 Silver Lake Road, St. Anthony, MN 55418 612-782-3301 | www.savmn.com

TO: Mayor & Council
FROM: Mark Casey, City Manager
RE: Outdoor Recreation Facilities Usage
DATE: May 4, 2020

Staff wishes to have a conversation with Council, regarding limiting the usage of our outdoor
recreation facilities during the pandemic, if needed.
The following signage:
“Help keep our community safe.
• AVOID GROUP ACTIVITIES
• AVOID PLAYGROUND STRUCTURES
• PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING“

is posted on or around the following facilities:
• Tennis Courts
• Playgrounds
• Basketball Courts
• Skateboard Park
• Splash Pads
• Ball Fields
• Picnic shelters are owned by the City and scheduled through Community Services.
Presently, the bathroom connected to the picnic shelters are open.

Overall, we have received a minimal amount of complaints about the lack of social distancing
from the community. For the most part when our officers engage and educate, it ends up being
pretty benign, examples include two moms and six children on the playground or a dad and his
three sons shooting hoops. However, that could change with Minneapolis closing their park
amenities on May 1st. We will need to monitor the impact.

Attached is brief survey as of Tuesday, April 28, 2020
