<br /> <br />TO: Mayor & Council <br />FROM: Mark Casey, City Manager <br />RE: Public Safety Commission <br />DATE: August 3, 2020 <br /> <br />At its worksession on July 7, 2020 the Council asked staff to provide a recommended model for a Public <br />Safety Commission. Below is possible ordinance language and discussion points. <br /> <br />Ordinance Language: <br />The Public Safety Commission is a seven member advisory commission, appointed by the City Council <br />and is charged with the following duties: <br />(A) Advise the City Council on police protection, fire protection, emergency management and <br />other public safety matters; <br />(B) Assist the Police and Fire Departments in assessing community attitudes towards and <br />concerns about public safety services; <br />(C) Assist Police and Fire Departments in developing long range strategic direction in the delivery <br />of public safety services; <br />(D) To promote public interest in and an understanding of public safety and the delivery of these <br />services in the City; <br />(E) To serve as a forum for residents to voice their opinions regarding public safety within the <br />community; <br />(F) Perform other duties as directed by the City Council. <br />
