Johnson Jr. and village doctor, Dr Preine met for the first timeDec. 22, 1945 discussed the purchase of a snow plow and then recessed to a hearing held onJanuary 8, 1946 with developers Forsythe and Johnson “in an attempt to settle the differencebetween them and the village so that the lawsuit over incorporation and annexation would notbe carried to the supreme court. Differences wereobviously not settled” wrote clerk Johnson.At a subsequent meeting they assumed the assets and liabilities of the Township, moved aheadwith plans to connect to Minneapolis’ Metropolitan Sewage Disposal system; and talked withSchool Board and both agreed to pay “halfsies” of the legal costs.In February, 1946, State Attorney General J.A.A. Burquist sided with Forsythe and Johnson anddeclared the Village’s incorporation and election of city council members null and void.St Anthony Village e--75th AnniversarySt Anthony Villagee 75th Anniversa77Starting a Village, 1946 to 1950 aryersa00—Starting a Village, 1946 to 19500 Settlement of suit and early developmentIn March, 1946, the council was summoned to appear in court at the state capitol butcarried on business andpurchased a snow plow (before the truck).In January, 1947 the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in favor of the St Anthonyresidents affirming the City’s incorporation.In 1948, the city turned to establish a municipal liquor store, dealt with sanitation issuesat Lowry Grove trailer camp and established more sewer districts.In 1949, the council approved a developer’s bid on the area between Kenzie Terrace andHighway 88 which became the St Anthony Shopping area and the Village entered anagreement with the County and State to landscape the “triangle” by the new municipalliquor store. This later became known as Trillium Park.5
