Parks and Environmental Commission Regular Meeting Minutes <br />June 8, 2020 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Ms. Lona Doolan provided a PowerPoint presentation including spring highlights, revisit the 1 <br />2020 CFS priorities and requests to the Parks and Environmental Commission. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Photographs of the 2020 Youth Climate Justice Strike, Earth Day Celebrations, Salo Park 4 <br />Cleanup and Neighborhood Cleanup via Social Media. Ms. Doolan reviewed the LEAPS 5 <br />Program in the Middle School which was funded by a grant. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Ms. Doolan reviewed the 2020 CFS Priorities. The collaborations within the Community 8 <br />include Completion of Hennepin County Green Partners Grant, Sustainability & Resilience in 9 <br />Chamber of Commerce brochure, Support Wilshire Park AmeriCorps intern, support 10 <br />implementation of composting at Nativity Lutheran, and Support Tree Canopy grant 11 <br />application for Faith Methodist. 12 <br /> 13 <br />The collaborations with St. Anthony include Solar Demonstration Installation, Sustainability 14 <br />& Resilience in St. Anthony Welcome Packet, Draft SMART Goal for 2040 Comp Plan, and 15 <br />Support UM Resilient Communities Project. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Ms. Doolan outlined the Citizens for Sustainability requests to the Parks and Environmental 18 <br />Commission. 19 <br /> 20 <br />1. Start 2021 planning now – look to 2040 Comp Plan to set goals 21 <br />• Improve biking connections and infrastructure 22 <br />• Improve decaying or non-existing pedestrian infrastructure 23 <br />2. Take up a study on plastic bag ban 24 <br />3. Prioritize park maintenance 25 <br />• Shrubbery maintenance needed in Trillium Park 26 <br />4. Join St. Anthony Village Gardeners at Trillium Park, Wednesday, June 10, 6:00 P.M. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Commissioner Niemi asked how many people were touched by the events held. Ms. Doolan 29 <br />stated 110 students submitted posters. There were 20 students involved in the LEAP program. 30 <br /> 31 <br />Ms. Doolan provided a list of what residents said they would like to see. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Commissioner Reed stated the recommendations are good and how are they supported to 34 <br />move forward. Chair Bellinger stated the Commission has talked in the past about having 35 <br />work sessions, in addition to the quarterly meetings. She suggested a work session be 36 <br />scheduled to review these recommendations. Ms. Doolan stated in the past CFS has provided 37 <br />some sessions. CFS would like to meet with the Commission regarding goal setting. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Chair Bellinger thanked Ms. Doolan for her presentations. 40 <br /> 41 <br />VII. COMMISSION REPORTS 42 <br /> 43 <br />Dr. Palmer thanked the City Council for their resolution on May 26 amending the Community 44 <br />Central Lease. Over a period of eight years there was to be an increase in the lease amount. 45 <br />The goal of the resolution is the $259,440 savings will be allocated to the stadium project and 46
