1/8/2021 <br />2 <br />COMMUNICATION COORDINATOR <br />Timeline: 17 months since Communication Coordinator began (September 2019) <br />First few months: <br />•Learned about the roles and responsibilities of each department. <br />•Toured facilities and met with department leaders. <br />•Familiarized with the City’s website content management system and various communication tools, platforms (electronic signage, social media, newsletter, etc.). <br />Research: <br />•Communication plans, websites, newsletters and social media. <br />•Best practices, technologies and strategies. <br />•Attended Minnesota Association of Government Communicators (MAGC) event, learning from civic organizations and communication peers on topics such as, communicating during crisis, ways to increase community engagement, social media strategies, and more. Made connections with fellow professionals and vendors. <br />Recommended enhancements: <br />•Presented a communication proposal on Oct. 11, 2019 that focused on three improvement areas and action plans—Village Notes newsletter, website and social media— to the City Manager and Administrative Services Coordinator. <br />RECAP COMMUNICATIONS 2020 <br />Goal: Communicate transparently and effectively <br />Communication department page: <br />•Providing a department overview, role and responsibilities, and various ways in which the City communicates with the community and stakeholders. savmn.com/communciations. <br />Village Notes newsletter: <br />•Updated layout, design, and process of Village Notes newsletter. <br />•Enhanced by implementing best practices. <br />•More consistent, branded look with themes/sections, graphics and photographs. <br />•Goal to implement AP-Style formatting (industry standard in written communications). <br />COVID-19 Information & Resources webpage: <br />Created a webpage for all COVID-19 communications for residents.
