2 <br />Finally, it should also be noted that, on average, elders are less able than others to relocate in response to <br />increased air (and noise) pollution, due to their often fixed incomes and reduced adaptability. <br /> <br />2. Children and vehicle exhaust: <br />From the MPCA: <br />"Exhaust from idling cars isn't good for anyone, but ...the impact is greatest on kids. Children breathe <br />more rapidly and inhale more pollutants per pound of body weight than adults, and their lungs are still <br />developing." <br /> <br />The EPA adds, "Children’s lungs are still developing, and when they are exposed to elevated levels of <br />[air toxins from idling vehicles], children have an increased risk of developing asthma, respiratory <br />problems and other adverse health effects." <br /> <br />It should be noted that St. Anthony Village’s Sustainability plan aims to reduce vehicle idling through <br />its “Young Lungs at Work” initiative.
