2020 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

35

SUSTAINABILITY
What is “Sustainability”? Sustainability is based on a simple
principle: Everything that we need for survival and well-being
depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment.
Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which
humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit
fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and
future.
Although it wasn’t always coined “sustainability”, St. Anthony
Village has long valued the protection and wise use of our resources.
With our mission statement “to be a progressive and welcoming
Village, that is walkable, sustainable and safe”. Sustainability is an
integral part of the day-to-day workings within City Hall.
St. Anthony has developed a dynamic, accessible online city-wide
Sustainability Tour story map in 2016 to showcase the City’s
tremendous sustainability accomplishments. This highly visual map
incorporates web-based mapping technology and allows residents
and interested parties to locate and learn about twenty impressive
sustainability projects within the City. The story map is intended to
be a living tool that can be updated as more projects are completed
and to track progress toward sustainability goals. The map can be viewed here:
https://datalink.wsbeng.com/StAnthony-Sustainability/
GREENSTEP 5
In 2020, St. Anthony continued to focus on best practices to achieve our
sustainability goals and maintain the 5th Step of the GreenStep Cities
program. The City of St. Anthony was recognized by the League of
Minnesota Cities at the annual conference for this achievement. The 5th
Step is the highest level that can be achieved and only a few
communities have attained the 5th Step.
More information will be presented in the Public Works Department’s Annual Report.
