WSB Engineering Carwash Noise Impact Assessment
David Braslau Associates, Inc. Page 22
8.0 FINDING AND CONCLUSIONS

An analysis of noise associated with the proposed Boulevard Autoworks carwash facility in St.
Anthony finds that, without any mitigation of sound levels, the Minnesota daytime L50 standards
could be exceeded at the adjacent Kenzington Condominiums east of the site and several homes
along NE 27th Street north of the site.

Background and traffic noise was monitored on a Friday afternoon, demonstrating compliance
with state noise standards. Projected sound levels from the carwash could exceed background
levels by significant amount without mitigation.

To comply with state noise standards, recommendations are made to keep entry and exit doors
closed during power washing and drying operation. A fairly light-weight door material would be
sufficient to bring levels below the daytime 60 dBA L50 standard.

To minimize sound level impact from vacuum equipment outside of the building, alternative
methods have been reviewed. The City of St. Anthony recommendation for a “shed” over the
vacuum area does not appear to be adequate for shielding all Kenzington units. An alternative
might be enclosing the vacuum motors with only hoses exposed to the outside. This issue will
require some additional study.

y:\jobs\2021jobs\221006\report\blvd-autoworks-noise-assessment-final.docxocx
88
