2020 Annual Report • Public Works Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

14

2020 WATER POSTER CONTEST WINNER
The Saint Anthony Parks Commission
held a water conservation poster contest
to help educate students about water
conservation in the home. Posters were
created by 3rd and 4th grade students at
Wilshire Park Elementary and St.
Charles Borromeo. Thank you to all of
the students that entered and to the
volunteers that helped organize the
contest and judge the posters.

2020 HENNEPIN COUNTY HEALTHY TREE CANOPY GRANT

In 2020 the city applied for and was awarded the Hennepin County Healthy Tree Canopy
Grant. The City has partnered with Tree Trust, a local non-profit, to complete a tree inventory of
the trees located within the public right of way beginning in the winter of 2021. Tree Trust will
have staff and youth program participants from their Community Forestry and YouthBuild
programs identifying boulevard tree species and entering them into a database. The data
collected during this program will be used to begin our management plan to lessen the impact
of the Emerald Ash Borer and qualifies the city for future grant opportunities.
2020 PARKS IMPROVEMENTS
In 2020 significant improvements were made to the Central Park
athletic fields as drain tile was installed to improve surface
drainage on fields 2 and 3. The underground drainage piping
system will collect surface water and convey it to the bioswale on
the north end of the park. Additionally, the skate park was
resurfaced, providing safer conditions for patrons.
