MEMORANDUM To:City of Saint Anthony Village Parks & Environmental Commission From:Jeremy Gumke, Public Works Director Date:September 13, 2021 Parks & Environmental Commission Meeting Request:Options to Dedicate Silver Lane Tennis Courts to Pickleball Courts BACKGROUND Saint Anthony has experienced a growing interest in Pickleball, and the Parks & Environmental Commission has been presented with updates on the topic. At its previous regular meeting on June 7, 2021, the Commission asked staff to bring forward options for dedicating the Silver Lane courts currently configured for a single Tennis courts and shared with striping for two Pickleball courts with movable nets. Since the previous meeting, a resident passed on concerns to a Commissioner on the condition of that court, noting that significant cracks have reformed in areas that have been previously repaired. Picture at right for reference. This should also be taken into consideration for any recommended action to change the use or reconfiguration of the courts. OVERVIEW Given the request and the conditions of the courts, staff identified three options with cost estimates for repairs and possible transition to dedicated Pickleball at the Silver Lane site: Option 1 Repair the cracks by filling them with a crack seal material and maintaining the court as is (shared tennis court and two pickleball courts) $1,500 - $2,000 Option 2 Repair the cracks by filling them with a crack seal material and resurface to eliminate the tennis court lines (two or possibly four pickleball courts) $15,000 - $20,000 Option 3 Fully reconstruct the court, painting only pickleball court lines, possibly adding overhead lighting, and adding to the playing surface area (four or possibly eight pickleball courts, if desired). $40,000 - $90,000
