REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />To:Saint Anthony Village City Council <br />From:Charlie Yunker, City Manager <br />Date:October 12, 2022 City Council Meeting <br />Resolution:Recognize Indigenous Peoples Day as a City Holiday <br />BACKGROUND <br />At its regular meeting on July 14, 2020 the City Council made changes to the City holiday calendar to discontinue <br />recognizing Good Friday and Columbus Day as City holidays and to recognize Juneteenth as a City holiday. The <br />remaining holiday is provided to staff as a floating paid holiday. <br />The City Council has wishes to begin recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day as an official City holiday. Beginning in <br />2022, in place of the floating holiday, staff will be provided a paid holiday on the on the second Monday in <br />October and City Hall will be closed in recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day. <br />As a result, the 12 observed holidays by the City of Saint Anthony will be: <br />New Year’s Day – January 1 <br />Martin Luther King Day Observed – January <br />President’s Day Observed – February <br />Memorial Day Observed – May <br />Juneteenth – June <br />Independence Day – July 4 <br />Labor Day Observed – September <br />Indigenous Peoples Day – October <br />Veteran’s Day – November 11 <br />Thanksgiving Day Observed – November <br />Friday following Thanksgiving – November <br />Christmas Day – December 25 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff is recommending adoption of the resolution. <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />Resolution Recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day as a City Holiday
