12/14/2021 <br />6 <br />Outcomes: Student-Led Projects 9 & 10 <br />SAMS No Plastic Challenge <br />Virtual Youth Climate Justice Summit <br />❑Feb 2021- SAMS Green Team created <br />school-wide “No Plastic Challenge” <br />❑3-part challenge: ❑Collecting plastic bags and recycling <br />at Target or Cub, ❑Donating to the Mississippi River <br />Clean-Up, ❑Learning about Wish-Cycling. <br />❑Feb 2021- SAMS Green Team attended <br />the Virtual Youth Climate Justice Summit❑Students learned about congressional <br />lobbying and the Climate Justice <br />Education Bill.❑Students also attended a session about <br />the Enbridge Line 3 Pipeline Protest. <br />Outcomes: Student-Led Projects 11 & 12 <br />Earth Week Challenge 2021 <br />Green Team Eco Book Review <br />❑April 2021- both SAMS and Wilshire Park <br />held Earth Week Challenges❑SAMS challenge included a new focus on <br />pollinators and the Greenhouse effect!❑Green Team students handed out <br />little seed packets and cups of soil to <br />middle school students. <br />❑High School Green Team started an <br />Environmental Book Club <br />❑First book: “A Terrible Thing To Waste: <br />Environmental Racism and It’s Assault On The <br />American Mind” by Harriet Washington <br />❑2nd book: “The Story Of More” by Hope Jahren❑Discusses “impacts of climate change through <br />the lens of human’s desire for excessive <br />consumption, demonstrating how attitudes <br />toward our planet are inseparable from our <br />attitudes toward our lifestyle choices”. – <br />Goodreads.com
