Parks and Environmental Commission Regular Meeting Minutes <br />December 20, 2021 <br />Page 7 <br />1 <br />C.2 2022 Draft Work Plan <br />3 <br />4 City Manager Charlie Yunker stated the Parks and Environmental Commission is a five- <br />5 member advisory commission, appointed by the City Council and charged with following the <br />6 following duties (City Code Chapter 32, Section 32.25): <br />A.7 To prepare, revise, and maintain a comprehensive, long-term plan for the redevelopment <br />8 of parks within the City. This plan shall be viewed as a working document that serves as a <br />9 framework and reference to future redevelopment. <br />B.10 To make recommendations to and advise the City Council and staff regarding park and <br />11 environmental issues and ideas. <br />C.12 To establish priorities and recommend a phasing plan and schedule for implementing <br />13 innovative park and environmental initiatives improvements, renovations, and plans. <br />D.14 To work with other communities to explore cooperative arrangements to develop <br />15 connecting routes in the form of bikeways, walking paths, and corridors of green space <br />16 wherever possible. <br />E.17 To investigate funding sources, including requests for increases in the City budget, <br />18 designated for parks, green spaces and environmental initiatives. <br />F.19 To seek new areas for additional parks, natural areas, walking paths, bikeways, and green <br />20 space corridors. <br />G.21 To generate community involvement in the development of parks, environmental <br />22 initiatives and their elements. <br />H.23 To review and recommend revisions to the operation and maintenance of City parks and <br />24 environmental initiatives; and <br />I.25 To periodically review, re-evaluate, and update the comprehensive park and <br />26 environmental initiatives plan to reflect current and future park needs of the City. <br />27 <br />28 Mr. Yunker noted in 2022, the Parks and Environmental Commission will focus on the <br />29 following items: <br />30 Continue with Citywide Parks cleanup in Spring 2022. <br />31 Education and outreach in conjunction with community organizations to promote use of <br />32 the organics drop off site. <br />33 Explore pedestrian & bike friendly routes. <br />34 Joint meeting with Planning Commission. <br />35 Explore water conservation initiatives working with Rice Creek and MWMO watersheds, <br />36 and partner with schools for water conservation poster contest. <br />37 Promote Arbor Day and Tree City activities in, including outreach and education to <br />38 residents and City contractors about tree diversity, climate resiliency, and proper planting <br />39 techniques. <br />40 Promote Sustainability Fair at the Community Center. <br />41 Review results of Tree Inventory. <br />42 Explore dedicated Pickleball courts be added to the park amenities. <br />43 Review results of parks <br />44 <br />45 Chair Bellinger asked if in 2022 will the Commission have the two work sessions like in <br />46 2021.
