Inventory of Existing Dog Parks <br />OVERVIEW OF SWIFT RUN DOG PARK <br /> Location: 2998 E. Ellsworth Road at corner of Platt Road <br /> Size – 10 acre grassy field area with 5 foot high perimeter fencing <br /> Large and small dog run areas <br /> Gravel parking lot with approximately 30 spaces <br /> Double entry/exit control gates (wheel chair accessible) <br /> Mowed trail, landscaping, and benches <br /> On-site portable toilet and nearby, off-site, flush-restrooms (Southeast Area Park at Northwest corner <br />of Platt and Ellsworth) <br /> Trash receptacles and dog waste disposal stations <br /> Posted rules, signage, and information kiosk <br />ISSUES AND POTENTIAL IMPROVEMENTS TO SWIFT RUN DOG PARK <br />1. The location of the park on a former landfill limits the types of amenities that can be installed as <br />footings are not permitted that might puncture landfill cover. <br />2. The condition of the parking lot has been a source of complaint because of muddy conditions and <br />rutting. Paving the parking lot should be considered. <br />3. Requests have also included water and permanent restrooms. However, no water is available at the <br />site due to the fact that there is no water main in the vicinity. <br />4. Continue to explore improvements to surfacing. <br />OVERVIEW OF OLSON DOG PARK <br /> Location – Dhu Varren Road at corner of Pontiac Trail <br /> Size – .7 acre grassy field area <br /> 5 foot high perimeter fencing <br /> One area – no separate large and small dog run areas due to space limitations <br /> Paved parking lot for all park uses <br /> Two double entry/exit control gates (wheel chair accessible) <br /> Benches <br /> Flush restrooms on-site <br /> Drinking fountain with dog bowl located near restrooms <br /> Trash receptacles and dog waste disposal stations at entries to dog park <br /> Posted rules, signage, and information kiosk <br />50
