MEMORANDUM To:Saint Anthony Village City Council From:Charlie Yunker, City Manager Date:May 23, 2023 City Council Meeting Request:Approval of National Public Works Week Proclamation BACKGROUND Since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored National Public Works Week across North America in effort to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives. APWA is proud to announce the theme "Connecting the World Through Public Works" for 2023 National Public Works Week. The "Connecting the World Through Public Works" theme highlights the way public works professionals connect us physically, through infrastructure, and inspirationally, through service to their communities, whether as first responders, or daily workers carrying out their duties with pride. The Saint Anthony Village Public Works Department is a team of 14 people dedicated to serving the community with a mission to provide effective and efficient design, construction, operation and maintenance of the City's infrastructure. Public Works contributes to connecting our community by providing robust infrastructure and essential services in transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater treatment, maintenance of parks, grounds, fleet, and facilities, support of emergency management and first response, right-of-way management, close collaboration with engineering, and much more. RECOMMENDATION In recognition of the commitment of our public works staff and their efforts, the City Council is asked to join in the designation of May 21-27, 2023 as National Public Works Week.
