They are looking for people from cities to attend and he would like to invite Minette and
17 Mr. Yunker.
18
19 Councilmember Doolan recognized a long-time resident Dottie Roman who passed away in July.
20 She was 97 years old and a huge volunteer within the community.
21
22 Councilmember Randle stated he wants to make clear there were still questions being asked
23 about him not wanting to take his seat after the last election. He explained to Mayor Webster that
24 the reason he did not want to take his seat is that he had issues about the election and how it was
25 being run. He had never seen more partisanship in any previous elections and had an issue with
26 the process but it had nothing to do with anyone personally. He has more to say and will do so
27 either in private or at the next Council Meeting, noting when outside endorsements are taken
28 from other organizations, that is partisanship. A previous Councilmember did that, however,
29 while on Council he was very non-partisan.
30
31 Mayor Webster stated they spoke about people who seek a DFL or GOP endorsement for their
32 race. She feels that is partisan. Of the candidates who won, they had not sought an endorsement
33 from a political party. Councilmember Randle asked what about a group that is aligned with a
34 political party. The League of Minnesota Voters is non-partisan.
35
36 Mayor Webster stated this is Councilmember Stephens’ last meeting with the Council. She
37 applied for the position in December and was appointed in January. Mayor Webster read some
38 excerpts from her application. Mayor Webster stated it has been a great honor to serve alongside
39 Councilmember Stephens.
40
41 Councilmember Randle stated he has not been able to spend a lot of time with Councilmember
42 Stephens. He noted she was the first black woman who served on Council but did not draw
43 attention to that fact.
44
45 Councilmember Doolan stated she is truly blessed serving with Councilmember Stephens. This
46 Council is so much better with her serving.
11
