5 <br />Fire Department <br />Medical Response Expansion <br />ALS program has been in place in spring of 2023. Increased the level of medical <br />care that the Fire Department can give to patients, while waiting for an ambulance <br />Looking at expanding ability and tools of the already in-place paramedics, along <br />with providing elevated skills for our current EMTs. This includes a broader range <br />of medications and procedures <br />Working with Hennepin County Medical Center and our Medical Director to <br />provide additional training and approval to expand medical capabilities <br />Continued to apply for various grants or research other avenues to provide <br />funding needs to purchase medications or equipment that may be required <br />Fire Department <br />Long Term Staffing Needs <br />Recruitment and retention concerns with current staffing model <br />Increase in call volume over the past several years. In a 20-year change, call <br />volume increase by over 105% with no change in duty crew staffing <br />Nationally recognized standards consider minimal operation of the fire ground to <br />be 2 in/2 out (4 firefighters minimum). This is not considering the abundancy of <br />tasks that need to be completed on a standard residential structure fire (with no <br />victims) <br />Budgeting for recruitment of additional staffing <br />Department will again apply for the Federal SAFER Grant <br />9 <br />10
