4

- T-ball teams, machine ball teams, Boosters softball, and St. Charles softball play at this
park. The 2nd field is usually underwater and unusable in the spring resulting in
canceled/delayed games.
- However, making the 2nd field more usable will result in further parking problems.
- There are people doing drop-off/pick-up, and people trying to park. The current lot
configuration does not have a separate outlet for cars dropping off kids. A suggestion
was made to create a one-way loop through the current grassy area towards the ice rink
boards for drop-offs and pick-ups, separating that section from parking. This would
displace the ice rink area here and remove an option for relocating field #2 to a less-
flood prone area.
- The playground at this park is ADA compliant but is difficult to access on busy days.
- A comment was made that the city needs to avoid solving for a Boosters problem that
may be attributed to scheduling, etc.
Central Park
- Some fields have artificial turf which has helped take pressure off of maintaining grass
condition.
- Available and open on the weekends for unorganized sport activity. Sometimes
unorganized sports will occasionally use the space during the week.
- This is the most difficult park to change usage/amenities for, as the space already has a
delicate balance between city usage, sports usage, district usage (plus maintenance).
Emerald Park
- Emerald Park is essentially at max for organized sports activity considering the parking
capacity and direct adjacency to neighboring homes.
- Playground is not ADA compliant – future opportunity? It would be easier to add
handicap spots and more easily accessible (but would change the parking configuration)
Other Amenities
- The skateboard park is used often by kids after school kids. This is likely a different group
of kids than those who participate in sports.
- Basketball courts are underutilized due to bad condition, regardless of whether full or
half-court. Having a level basketball court with lines and better overall condition would
increase usage.
- Wilshire Park has an ADA compliant playground with squishy rubber, as well as a good
basketball court.
- Warming houses used for ice rinks store pitching machines in the summer.
Pickleball
