My wife Vicki and I own a home at 3404 Silver Lake Road. We have
lived in St Anthony Village for over 20 years. We put multiple kids through the school district and Vicki worked at Nativity
church for years. We have deep ties to the SAV community.
Vicki and I are writing you about the proposed Rental Ordinance revisions on the 8/12 Council meeting agenda.
We operate our house on Silver Lake Road as a part-time, short-term rental. We do this because we purchased a cabin in
Vicki’s hometown in SE Wisconsin and we reside there as well as the house on Silver Lake Road. The only way we can
afford 2 mortgages is to supplement our income through short term rentals.
If the Council passes the ordinance as written, it will have a destructive effect on our life and cause us to make serious life-
changing choices such as selling the house in SAV, a town we have lived in for over 20 years.
We take very good care of the house, screen our guests very carefully and comply with all rental provisions. In addition,
we live in the house on a regular basis when there are vacancies. The guests we have are high quality: One repeat guest
stays at our house because her daughter and grandchildren live on the other side of the block, other guests stay because
their house in SAV is being remodeled. Others stay with us because they are looking to move into SAV.
In addition to the huge impact on our lives, the Ordinance revision would force us to cancel months’ worth of bookings and
the guests that planned to stay in our house would also be forced to alter their travel plans.
Our sincere hope is you amend the proposed ordinance revision to allow current short term rental operators to stay in
business (grandfathering provision). I believe there are only a handful of us. Please keep in mind we live in that house too.
Respectfully,
Chuck & Vicki Elliott
Public Comments for City Council Meetings - Submission #10552
Date Submitted: 7/31/2025
35
