A Safe System Approach focuses on efforts to <br />effectively design for all people and manage vehicle speeds by design <br />through proactive and proven street safety treatments. <br />•Active Transportation Principles: The principles of safety, comfort, <br />coherence, directness and attractiveness and the unique needs of active <br />transportation users informs approaches to network and street design. <br />•Transportation Equity: Policy, design and practices in the built environment <br />and transportation system have led to inequities for underserved <br />communities, especially low-income, people with disabilities and Black, <br />Indigenous and People of Color. Advancing transportation equity requires <br />having a better understanding of how the transportation system, services <br />and decision-making processes help or hinder the lives of people in <br />underserved communities.
