Curb extensions and on-
street parking result in inconsistent
space for biking on the street and
uncomfortable biking conditions. The
sidewalks are busy at arrival/dismissal
times with students walking and
biking to school, making the sidewalks
feel crowded and creating conflicts
between users.
Participants noted Silver Lake Road
Northeast/Kenzie Terrace & Saint
Anthony Boulevard as a barrier for
walking and biking. Some curb ramps
are not aligned to the crosswalk
direction, requiring people biking to
enter the lane of oncoming traffic to
get to the median island.
Participants noted that Saint Anthony
Boulevard feels too narrow to bike
comfortably alongside traffic. At
Stinson Boulevard Northeast, the
roadway transitions to the Grand
Rounds bikeway system, with wide
sidewalks serving as a shared biking
and walking facility.
37th Avenue Northeast is the border
between Ramsey and Hennepin
Counties. The roadway has recently
undergone a 4-to-3-lane conversion,
leaving wide shoulders for biking.
Students are regularly seen crossing
mid-block along 37th Avenue
Northeast to reach the school.
