WHEREAS, On March 10, 2026 Tibetans across the world will gather in their host countries to commemorate the 67th <br />anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising against the occupation of Tibet, and to honor more than 1.2 million Tibetans <br />who have died in this struggle; and <br />WHEREAS, The occupation of Tibet and the ongoing suppression of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the <br />degradation of Tibetan culture, religion, livelihoods, and identity, should be a concern for all people who value dignity and <br />justice; and <br />WHEREAS, The Chinese government has forcibly separated approximately one million Tibetan children, including children <br />as young as four, into colonial boarding schools and preschools designed for forced assimilation, cutting them off from <br />family, language, and faith, and causing severe emotional and psychological harm while accelerating the destruction of <br />Tibetan identity; and <br />WHEREAS, In 2025, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama celebrated his 90th birthday, a milestone the Tibetan community <br />honors as the ‘Year of Compassion’, reaffirming his nine decades of leadership and advocacy for peace, nonviolence, and <br />universal compassion, and calling on communities and leaders everywhere to recommit to these values; <br />WHEREAS, The Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota was founded in 1992 and, with more than 6,000 Tibetan <br />members, is committed to promoting and preserving Tibetan culture, heritage, and religion; and <br />WHEREAS, It is fitting to affirm the determination of the Tibetan people in Tibet and in exile to protect their heritage and <br />identity against overwhelming odds through nonviolent and peaceful means. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wendy Webster, Mayor of Saint Anthony Village, <br />have the distinct honor of proclaiming <br />March 10, 2026 as Tibet Day <br />throughout Saint Anthony Village, Minnesota. <br />Tibet Day <br />March 10, 2026 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />City of Saint Anthony Village, 3301 Silver Lake Road, Saint Anthony Village, Minnesota <br />Wendy Webster, Mayor <br />March 10, 2026 <br />5
